Juice Fast Part 2

As it turns out juice fasting is as difficult as it seems. There are many perks as well as several cons to this sort of "diet" for any period of time. My husband and I did not last very long. This however was not from lack of trying. We had received a Christmas card from a relative and went to the local Walmart to buy a basic juicer. We then went to Safeway for our organic fruits and veggies. The total of our organics was $36 and the juicer was $50. I started out with a strawberry banana juice with ginger. It was delicious but I found myself hungry for meat an hour later. I then decided to stick with the juice and made another but this was apples oranges and an inch ginger. Again very delicious. I am not a very big fan of many veggies raw. I like lettuce and spinach leaves and several others. However, I find I prefer most veggies in a can or served with a pot roast. This wasn't a real problem though because I could make my juice with whatever fruit I wanted and eat my salad for solid foods. My husband however decided to go all out and make a veggie juice. His first was with carrots ginger tomatoes and a kiwi. Word of advice never juice a kiwi even if it has a strainer. It holds zero amount of the seeds from a kiwi. His juice smelt very gross and I didn't even bother trying it. I am very picky. After the epic kiwi seed fail he continued to make another. This time he decided to use carrots and a tomato. According to him it tasted great. The pros or perks to juicing is it is very simple once you get good recipes and figure out how to work the juicer and maintain usage. However, its quite the inconvenience for having to take the juicer completely apart and clean it for the next use. I don't recommend juicing for families that have two kids. It can get pricy for the juicing products going into the juicer. Plus the fact that even though your children may be eating salads and/or healthier foods they enjoy it is tempting to want to eat solid food. All in all it is a great diet and the food you make in the juicer taste amazing but it is VERY difficult to stay on just fruits and veggies via juice. I recommend doing what a friend of ours did. He is a single soldier where we are stationed. He would have a juice for breakfast and lunch then an actual healthy meal like salad and a plain potato for dinner. For his snacks mixed unsalted nuts. He also had one cheat day a week which was usually a Friday or Saturday. He would eat whatever he wanted or eat out with a friend. I am still waiting on feedback from him after his first week. He has mentioned he has felt filled with more energy and has been sleeping better. I will respond with more feedback as I get it from him and if my husband and I decide to try and tackle juicing again. If you find you are interested in juicing I have some amazing links I can give you or you can research yourself by using the Google search engine. Just type in "juicing" :-)
